Ashdown Farmhouse

Date

May 2022

Project Type

Renovation of the farmhouse and adjoining smoke house. Re-landscaping the garden to incorporate rainwater harvesting.

JG Restorations Ltd is proud to present our recent restoration project at Ashdown Farmhouse, a Grade II listed property on the National Trust Estate, with origins dating back to the 17th century.

Our specialist team carried out sensitive conservation work throughout the building, including the complete re-roofing of the smokehouse using reclaimed tiles. Internally, we re-plastered key rooms using traditional lime plaster and laths, and carefully removed damaging cement render, replacing it with a breathable lime render mixed with horse hair—helping to protect the structure and preserve the building’s historic fabric for the future.

Alongside the restoration works, we delivered a full transformation of the home, installing a bespoke handmade kitchen, upgrading bathrooms, and completing custom oak carpentry throughout. We also carried out like-for-like hardwood window replacements, ensuring authenticity while improving performance.

Externally, the project included the construction of reclaimed brick and Sarsen stone garden walls, full garden re-landscaping, and the installation of an irrigation system and rainwater harvesting—reflecting our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and sustainable building practices.

This project is a true showcase of our dedication to preserving heritage properties with care, precision, and lasting quality.
